Has anyone, ever, got to the end of their to-do list?
Julius is home, and I'm as behind as ever...
Dear Jasper,
Here’s a question for anyone who doesn’t have a job or children. Which I suppose limits it to financially blessed heirs or retirees…
Do you ever feel like you’ve ticked everything off your to do list? Is that even possible?
I feel like I’ve been worrying over THE LIST ever since I can remember.
This exists across various different platforms at any one time (bits of paper, chalkboard, kitchen fridge whiteboard, apps, google docs, Trello lists, etc.) - anyone who knows me will know that I am always tweaking THE LIST in some form.
Yes, it would make sense for there to be one mega-list, ideally an app-based, cloud-synced, colour-coded system that would simplify everything but I have never managed to stick with just one format, and so the chaos continues.
THE LIST, currently, just to put my cards on the table, looks something like this:
Call mortgage people
Upgrade phone?
Check post
Get a PO Box?
Update Jasper’s vaccination records
Enrol Jasper for nursery
Reply to 2022 email from Sasha
Retrieve stuff from storage
Get unread emails down to zero
Finish hotel review from 2021
Sort play date with Nat
Try the paddel ball thing
Get MRI for fucked back
Get more space on iPhone
Do Pilates (for fucked back)
Get more space on Mac
Trim Jasper’s nails (when he’s asleep)
Sell everything on eBay
Pay Pest Control Man
Sort car insurance
You’re probably very bored already so I’ll stop. But my question remains: has anyone who has ever lived on Modern Planet Earth ever got to the end of THE LIST?
If so, what does it feel like? Relief? Triumph? A Strange Sense of Emptiness?
